Color Story : Mustard Moment

I have been working on an office project for the past few months that has challenged me in ways that have been really enlightening. Curating an office space is profoundly different from styling a residential space. The focus is less on comfort and intimacy, more on creating a vibe that is not only inspiring and comfortable but not too comfortable, decorative but not over accessorized and polished but not stiff. There’s a fine line I’ve been navigating as far as how to bring life and style into a stale corporate setting without loosing focus on its professionalism. Oh, and there’s also that tiny psychological hurdle of designing a space to appeal to ten otherwise complete strangers with totally different tastes and making it all seem cohesive. But I will say, when your clients are as lovely as mine, it makes for a welcomed challenge.

ANYWAYS…. the reason for the background is that in this process I have embraced the power of yellow as a universally appealing accent color for this project. More specifically, mustard. It’s a perfect polished tone of yellow that doesn’t scream kindergarten classroom like I feel most yellows do. It’s not in your face cheerful and positive, more deep, pensive, luxurious that feels eclectic and playful but still special. It also pops beautifully with my forever loves, blue and gray, which is the base of which I was given to build off of.

Check out the power of mustard in action in the below inspirations that really ignited me to embrace this sunny saturation for my most recent production.
