Faux Fur Winter Coat Trends- The Modhemian Fights The Cali Cold

Since I was a wee child I remember having a preoccupation with all things fluffy, floofy, soft and fuzzy. Along with clicky shoes, petticoats and dangly earrings, but that’s for another time. This fur obsession has been a long standing attraction of mine, perhaps its my method of becoming more connected to our animal counterparts, but not by skinning them alive, just wanting to dress like them. Let’s face it, there’s nothing more cozy, feminine and statement making then a good looking winter coat you can pet.

Emphasizing my love of and life long devotion to all animals, furry or otherwise, I have to say I do not support the wearing of animal furs for the sake of promoting one’s wealth or chasing trends. Buying new is supporting a long history of animal rights injustices that I just can not stomach. At the sake of sounding one sided, I can however appreciate the long history of fur trade in this country and across the globe, as well as its primitive, primal protection against the elements for survival for people who NEED it, but as a fashion statement a few times of the year, I think its immoral to buy new animal skins. Sorry to get so serious and righteous, I just don’t want you to think that I’m neglecting the issue here.

Faux fur is always welcome however! We’ve seen the teddy bear skinned for this seasons chicest outerwear trend, sheep sheared and dyed in a multitude of colors depending on the occasion or your mood, but lets take it one step further and look at all the other stuffed animals that had to die in the name of FASHUN. Here are a few of my favorite ways to style a faux fur coat as well as a round up of some of my favs out there right now. Get ‘em while they’re hot and while its cold, for all my little Angelenos out there.

1. Boheme 70’s Mongolian Sheep Vintage //2. The Arrivals Moya III //3. Free People Faux Furrys //4. ASOS Agnes Bomber //5. H&M Faux Fozzy Bear //6. Madewell Bonded Sherpa //7. Zara faux Fur Short Coat //8. Zara Pink Faux Fur //9. House of Harlow 1960’s Faux Fur //10. Striped Fox

I can’t decide which one I like the most! I can think of so many occasions for each one, including walking the dog, dinner with the girls, company holiday party, trip to NY…. but mostly for walking the dog and laying on the couch in my faux fur coat, which is way more my speed.

Ciao for now!
