Lately I’ve been feeling a bit pink. The last time I had a wave of pinkness, I was cooking a baby girl. Don’t get excited, no sibling for Pop just yet. I chalk it up to the in your face summer blooms, rose all day and those muted earthy disco hues that have hit a high note recently. I’m talking more of the sand dune, peachy bottom, blushy terra cotta kinda pink as opposed to anything magenta and or bubblegum. You do know who you’re talking to riiight?
This summer can be summed up in two words for me, peachy beach. These warmer days have attracted me to warmer hues, perhaps in part because we have been spending a lot of time at the beach since breaking Pop into her new bike seat. It’s impossible to ignore how awake and alive all the bougainvillea are as we cruise through the hood or the pretty California pink stucco facades fronted with green palms and saguaro cacti as we slowly peddle to the ocean. Inside our home, pink tutus and lipstick seem to be a hot commodity these days, which I guess you can blame me for supplying, but also Poppy for refusing to work with anything other. Man, she’s out girling the most girly girls I’ve ever met. Does she not know her mother is a monochromatic tomboy. I must break her! But for now, let her paint her face with lipgloss and wear glittery jellies EVERYWHERE.
You know Summer has set in when every one has a subtle pink glow to their faces, stone fruit is over abundant at the market and sand adorns everyone from the ankle down. I just love how a good peachy pink or light coral meshes with a subtle suntan, creating a pretty monochromatic collage of our flesh and making us feel extra fit and fem. Its my favorite time of year and feels like a wedding day; took forever to get here and now you blink your eyes and its coming to a close.
As we enjoy these last breaths of summer, can we all take a moment to appreciate every hue of natural pink that the season has brought us, and long for another 9 months until we can indulge again.
ciao for now!
xx
